The president of Turkmenistan participated in the Global Forum "Extractive Industries as an Engine for Sustainable Development," held virtually under the chairmanship of UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
Turkmenistan was one of the first countries to adapt the Sustainable Development Goals at the state level and continues to systematically take an active part in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, using the basic criteria and indicators of the SDGs in the formation and implementation of comprehensive reforms. The achievement of the SDGs should be facilitated by Turkmenistan's initiatives at the international level: strengthening global energy security and ensuring public access to cheap, reliable and modern energy sources.
The key mission of the round table was to outline specific measures and recommendations implemented globally, regionally and at the state level to overcome the problems of climate change. The analyzed sphere was the extractive industries: oil, gas, and mining - they are assigned a decisive role in reducing the level of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere of the Earth. The participants of the forum discussed the nuances of financing the programs to achieve the SDGs, recovery of the national economies in the post-pandemic period, quality management of natural resources, introduction of "green energy", investments in alternative energy sources, and innovative technologies.

The President of Turkmenistan reaffirmed the state's unwavering focus on uniting and strengthening the efforts of the countries of the world in the face of serious eco-threats. Our state proposes specific urgent measures:
- It is necessary to start creating a UN Strategy aimed at the introduction of low-carbon energy;
- an international roadmap for the promotion of hydrogen as an energy priority should be created under the auspices of the UN.
As an initiator of these proposals, our country is ready to become a participant in the development of ways and criteria for the implementation of global environmental programs in the near future.

The head of state, on behalf of neutral Turkmenistan, once again stressed the commitment to constructive dialogue on the basis of the UN platform, showing strategic and balanced approaches in addressing the paramount challenges of our time.
