President of Uzbekistan and Iranian Foreign Minister discuss prospects for transport corridor through Turkmenistan

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who arrived in Tashkent, during which prospects for improving the transport corridor running through the territories of Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran and Oman were discussed. The participants of the negotiations discussed issues of pressing importance in perfection of the bilateral partnership. Uzbekistan and Iran attach great importance to boosting transport and communications cooperation, including optimum involvement of Iran's ports and full-scale implementation of Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman corridor project.

The head of Uzbekistan and the Iranian Foreign Minister discussed regional and global issues, including strengthening security in the region and stabilizing the situation in Afghanistan.

The agreement on the implementation of the transport corridor project in Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran and Oman was signed on April 23, 2016. Part of the corridor is a railway line across Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Iran, part is a sea route to Oman from the ports of Iran (Bandar Abbas, Chahbahar).
