On May 26, 2020 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan held a meeting with the leaders of the Eastern Committee of the German Economy in the form of a video conference. The parties had a constructive conversation on the prospects for further partnership. In the course of the discussion, Oliver Hermes, Head of the Board of the Eastern Committee of the German Economy, presented a report on the German economy and the global situation concerning the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the prospects for bilateral partnership with Turkmenistan. The report made it possible to outline the main vectors of the partnership, as well as to consider options for the impact on the previously reached agreements of objective situations that may arise in connection with the pandemic.
During the videoconference, its participants discussed the UMAX Trade project, the main objective of which is a full-scale and comprehensive renovation of the water sector in Turkmenistan. The parties studied the proposals of this project and considered the positions of relevant ministries on this issue.
As part of further development of the Turkmen-German partnership, it was decided to hold the Days of Economy of Germany in Turkmenistan in 2021. The similar event will be the seventh in a row. In addition, the sides intend to intensify negotiations between the Turkmen and German companies.
