Turkmenistan and Iran to join forces to fight dust storms

A videoconference was held between the Head of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan Charygeldy Babanyyazov and Deputy Head of the Department of Environment of Iran Iraj Heshmati on issues related to combating dust storms in the Karakum desert. This is reported on the website of "Business Turkmenistan".

During the talks, the parties also discussed the possibility of sharing experience in this area and organizing joint field trips. Minister of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan Babanyyazov noted the need to develop vegetation to control dust and counter desertification.

The Karakum Desert is one of the largest sandy deserts in Central Asia, covering almost three quarters of Turkmenistan's territory.
