Turkmenistan increased gas supplies to Azerbaijan by 110%

Turkmenistan considers prospects for transporting gas to the Middle and Near East

Azerbaijan has significantly increased purchases of natural gas from Turkmenistan in 2023, facing high demand for blue fuel in the domestic market. This is reported by the publication Vestiabad with reference to the portal Abc.az. According to statistics published on the resource, imports of Turkmen gas increased 2.1 times compared to the previous year and amounted to 1.3 billion cubic meters.

Deliveries are carried out under the swap scheme through the territory of Iran from December 2021. The value of imported gas increased from $76.9 million to $182.8 million. The average price of 1,000 cubic meters of gas from Turkmenistan increased from $125 to $143.

Experts note that the sharp rise in imports is due to Azerbaijan's own gas shortage amid an increase in domestic demand. In their opinion, the country will have to further increase fuel purchases abroad to meet domestic needs.
