Turkmenistan held the first elections to the Khalk Maslakhaty of the Milli Gengesh

Today was a landmark day for Turkmenistan in the socio-political aspect - elections to the Khalk Maslakhaty of the Milli Gengesh were held.

The voting process began at 10:00. The Central Election Commission has registered 112 contenders vying for 48 mandates, so there were two to three contenders per position. The canvassing process ended twenty-four hours before the election.

There were 231 members of the Velayat and Ashkhabad khalk maslakhaty on the list of electors:

  • Akhal velayat - 37;
  • Balkan Velayat - 39;
  • Dashoguz province - 39;
  • Lebap velayat - 38;
  • Mary region - 39;
  • Ashgabat city - 39.

According to the law, 440 Turkmen national observers monitored the organization of the electoral process on the basis of openness and transparency.

At the end of voting, the Velaiat and capital city election commissions began counting the votes.
