Avaza, August 4 - Arzuw.news. President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov held a meeting with UN Secretary General António Guterres in the Avaza National Tourist Zone. This was reported by the State News Agency of Turkmenistan.
The UN chief arrived in the country to attend the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, which is being held under the theme "Promoting Progress through Partnerships".
President Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence in the constructive implementation of the new Program of Action for Landlocked Countries adopted in December 2024. António Guterres praised Turkmenistan's active approach to solving urgent problems and called the country a key strategic partner of the UN.
The participants of the meeting paid special attention to the significant dates of 2025 - the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality status. On Turkmenistan's initiative, 2025 was declared the International Year of Peace and Confidence in accordance with the UN General Assembly Resolution.
The Secretary-General noted Turkmenistan's significant progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries is held every 10 years with the participation of Governments, international entities, the private sector and civil society.
The sides expressed confidence in strengthening the strategic dialog between Turkmenistan and the UN to maintain peace and sustainable development.
