Turkmenistan participates in the 25th session of the UNWTO General Assembly in Samarkand

In the ancient city of Samarkand today started 25th session General Assembly of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). This largest event in the field of tourism is being held in Uzbekistan for the first time.

Samarkand was chosen to host the UNWTO session following a vote at the previous 24th session in Madrid. The historic city, known for its rich cultural heritage and inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, has been preparing for the event for a year.

In the work of the session accept delegates from more than a dozen countries around the world. Among them are ministers and heads of specialized agencies and tourism organizations. Turkmenistan is represented at the session by a delegation of representatives of the Ministry of Culture and the country's tourism industry.

UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili addressed the opening ceremony. He thanked the Uzbek authorities for the warm welcome and expressed confidence that the discussions in Samarkand will contribute to the further development of the global tourism industry.

The event was also attended by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev. In his speech, he emphasized that holding such a representative UNWTO forum in Samarkand is a recognition of the rich tourism potential of Uzbekistan and the city, which has a huge historical and cultural significance for all mankind.

During several days delegates will discuss topical issues of the world tourism industry development and outline plans for the future.
