Turkmenistan is taking comprehensive measures to modernize the water infrastructure, introduce scientific achievements, environmentally friendly and saving technologies into the industry. At present, completely new approaches to hydro-resources management are spreading. This was reported by the correspondent of the publication Arzuw.news.
President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov identified the introduction of digital technologies in all sectors of state life as one of the most important tasks. On the initiative of the head of state, economical methods of crop irrigation were developed in accordance with soil-climatic, reclamation and geographical conditions of regions and districts.
Economical water use in agriculture occupies a special place in the Water Code of Turkmenistan. Adoption of this draft law has become another important step in successful solution of problems of practical application and conservation of the country's resources, increasing efficiency of irrigated lands as an important evidence of dynamic development of agricultural production.
Specialists have studied the results of water supply to fields through sprinklers and other irrigation devices and its release from the reservoir depending on the condition of crops. Water management workers have conducted many experiments and used the best world experience to reduce moisture losses applied in agriculture.
The total volume of surface water in the country is 25 billion cubic meters. About 95 percent of these volumes fall on the Amu Darya River. The state attaches special importance to the planned utilization of the resources of this waterway. The production company Amyderýakenarberkidiş makes a valuable contribution to preventing river water pollution by strengthening the banks of the ancient Ceyhun.
Another task is to prevent salinization of the Amu Darya. When studying the dynamics of changes in the level of mineralization of river water over the last thirty years, scientists found that its salt composition has increased. The Amu Darya river flow contains a large number of useful elements. The water artery annually brings to agricultural lands more than 230 million tons of silt, which contains calcium, potassium and phosphorus and is of particular importance in the development of new lands.
The authorities are taking effective measures to increase the capacity of one of the main waterways of the country - the Karakum River originating in the Amu Darya. Thanks to powerful imported equipment, the channel capacity has increased, which has sharply reduced water losses and given a significant impetus to the operation of the country's hydrosystem.
Water problems create the need to develop scientifically based methods for more efficient water use in households and agriculture. Specialists of scientific institutes in Turkmenistan carry out a number of activities in this field.
The Turkmen lake "Altyn Asyr" has significantly increased the volume of water reserves of the republic. In the future, the man-made reservoir promises to become one of the largest in the world, which will have a positive impact not only on increasing the hydro resources of Turkmenistan, but also on improving the environmental situation in the region. The main purpose of the Turkmen lake "Altyn Asyr" is to collect water in an environmentally safe place, connect water flows into a single system, restore and expand pastures, and develop fisheries.
"In the past, the residual water from the fields, saturated with salt and herbicides, drained simply into the desert, forming small muddy lakes. There were a lot of such marshes. We combined these marshes with one canal and we drain this salty water from them into a big depression called Karashor. Today, after several years, as a result of natural biological processes, the water has cleared up to acceptable standards and a large number of fish have appeared there. The construction of this man-made reservoir, and in fact, the most complex hydraulic system, makes it possible to successfully solve urgent environmental, economic and social issues", - emphasized Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
In 2024 alone, the authorities opened several facilities capable of treating tens of thousands of cubic meters of drinking water per day. The central offices and branches of the new water treatment plants have fully automated decision-making such as dispatching treated liquid in the prescribed volume and regulating delivery as needed, as well as controlling the rationing of chemical reagents.
The chemical and bacteriological laboratories of the production facilities were equipped with high-tech equipment, including more than 50 analyses, in particular, spectrophotometers that determine the presence of various chemical elements in the liquid and water hardness. The new water treatment facilities were built within the framework of the "National Program of the President of Turkmenistan on transformation of social and living conditions of the population of villages, settlements and etrap centers for the period up to 2028".
