In 2020, the volume of trade between Turkmenistan and Canada was $17.8 million.

According to the Canadian Foreign Ministry, the sum of trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Canada amounted to $17.8 million. Separately, it is reported that the export of Canadian goods was carried out in the amount of $5.4 million, and the import of Turkmen goods - in the amount of $12.5 million.

A significant share (70.6%) of all shipments from Canada are parts, industrial equipment, and machinery shipped to Turkmenistan. And the vast majority of Turkmen-made goods (98%) imported by Canada are basic and industrial chemicals and plastic products.

The Canadian foreign ministry noted that Turkmenistan and Canada have long enjoyed warm relations. The key areas of partnership are education, trade and science diplomacy. As for the latter, its development has become especially relevant in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic.

It should be noted that recently there was a meeting between the diplomatic missions of Turkmenistan and Canada, where the parties addressed issues of bilateral cooperation in the field of environmental protection, education, trade and economic sphere, water diplomacy. Participants in the talks exchanged views on topical issues of cooperation on the basis of international associations.

There were proposals to jointly fight such negative global phenomena as extremism, terrorism and illicit drug trafficking. The priority vectors of partnership between Turkmenistan and Canada - transport and energy field.
