More than 1,300 persons have obtained citizenship in Turkmenistan

On the eve of Independence Day celebrations, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed a decree on accepting 1301 persons into the country's citizenship. This was reported on the air of the news program Watan.

As Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister R. Meredov informed at today's enlarged government meeting, we are talking about stateless persons permanently residing on the territory of Turkmenistan. They represent 32 nationalities.

The head of state also decided to issue residence permits to 265 foreign citizens from 13 countries who arrived in Turkmenistan and submitted personal applications.

These humanitarian decisions clearly demonstrate Turkmenistan's commitment to international conventions on human and stateless persons' rights.

It should be noted that during the entire period of independence Turkmenistan has become a citizen of Turkmenistan. taken almost 30 thousand people, and almost 6 thousand citizens of 26 nationalities received residence permits.

In his speech, the President emphasized the commitment to Turkmenistan's humane policy towards foreign citizens. Turkmenistan regularly provides humanitarian aid and other support to Turkmens abroad. It is also worth adding that the possibility of receiving education in the country's universities is always open to them. Hundreds of citizens from Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Iran and other countries have been receiving higher education in Turkmenistan for many years.

It should be recalled that earlier this week at the Mekan Palace in Ashgabat took place XXIV Conference of the Humanitarian Association of Turkmens of the World. It was chaired by the National Leader of the Turkmen people Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The participants discussed the report on the work of the Association and priorities for its further activities. The President of Turkmenistan sent a welcoming message to the conference and presented awards to the most distinguished members of the organization. The participants adopted a letter of thanks to the Head of State.

Representatives of the Turkmen diaspora from different countries will take part in the Independence Day celebrations.
