Carpet Day was celebrated in Turkmenistan

Carpet Day is traditionally widely celebrated in Turkmenistan on the last Sunday of May. This is reported by the Internet publication "Türkmenistan habarlar portaly".

In honor of this holiday, the National Carpet Museum opened an exhibition featuring unique exhibits, including a giant carpet entered in the Guinness Book of Records. The area of the record-breaking carpet is 301 square meters and its weight is 200 kg. The carpet was made by the hands of forty craftswomen for eight months.

Another valuable exhibit of the exhibition is an exact copy of the Pazyryk carpet, the original of which is in the Hermitage. The carpet depicts Oguz-Khan and his grandsons, as well as symbols of animals and natural elements. The age of this exhibit is about 2.5 thousand years.

It should be reminded that the art of carpet weaving in Turkmenistan is included in the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage.
