The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted a meeting with Ms. Tatiana Valova, Director General of the UN Office in Geneva and Secretary General of the Conference on Disarmament. The event took place via video link.
Participants in the talks noted that the high-level partnership between Turkmenistan and the UN has a long history and is characterized by a multifaceted focus. Moreover, the state interacts not only with the UN headquarters but also with offices of the organization in the regions. Thus, Turkmenistan has fruitful contacts with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and Human Rights, UNICEF and other agencies.
The participants in the talks expressed a mutual interest in further developing joint activities to achieve global stability and security, as well as respect for human rights.
Touching upon the important topic of interaction in the direction of combating the COVID-19 pandemic and overcoming the socio-economic consequences, the meeting participants noted the position of the President of Turkmenistan. The head of state is committed to coordinated action of the international community in this direction. In particular, the Turkmen leader advocates a fruitful partnership with the WHO, which is headquartered in Geneva.
In this context, it was also noted that Turkmenistan has made a proposal in the framework of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly to develop and establish appropriate international instruments in the field of health.
