In honor of the thirtieth anniversary of Turkmenistan's membership in the UN and the events held these days to commemorate this event, it was decided by the government together with UNDP (United Nations Development Program) to launch a natural project that aims to preserve and further work with the land resources of the Aral Sea to realize their potential for the benefit of the country. The program will be funded by a special environmental fund, which works with the support of both UNDP and the Ministry of Agriculture of Turkmenistan.
The announced budget of the project is around 4.5 million US dollars. Its main goal is to preserve and determine the most productive trends in the use of key ecosystems, land and water resources, which are in the Aral Sea basin. The project also assumes mutual work within the framework of the Aral Sea potential use project, which was launched last autumn and will be completed in 2025. Mutually beneficial cooperation for the benefit of ecology is expected.
