The government of Turkmenistan held a meeting in the new administrative center of the Akhal velayat on Wednesday. The decision to adopt a document on transferring the administrative center of the Akhal velayat to the city of Arkadag was announced at the extended outreach event. The new administrative center was given this name, Gulshat Mammedova, chairwoman of Turkmenistan's Mejlis, said on Wednesday.
When deciding on the name for the new administrative center, the wishes of the residents of the Akhal velayat and other regions of the country, as well as the opinions of representatives of public organizations, were taken into account.
In accordance with the submitted resolution of the Majlis, an area of 2,370 hectares in Geoktepe district of Akhal province will now be administratively included in the territory of Arkadag.
