Baku, July 16 - Arzuw.news. National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has completed an official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan, during which he held talks with President Ilham Aliyev. This is reported by the State News Agency of Turkmenistan.
At the Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Baku, Hero-Arkadag was met by Azerbaijani officials with a guard of honor. The central event of the visit was the talks at the Zagulba Palace, where the heads of delegations discussed a wide range of bilateral cooperation issues.
President Aliyev conveyed best wishes to President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, and Hero-Arkadag conveyed warm greetings from the Turkmen leader. The sides emphasized the common historical roots of the Turkmen and Azerbaijani peoples dating back to the Oguzes and noted the high level of mutual understanding between the countries.
Special attention was paid to Azerbaijan's support to the initiative on declaring 2025 as the "International Year of Peace and Trust" put forward by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly. Azerbaijan was the first country to support this proposal.
Within the framework of the visit, the National Leader of the Turkmen people met with Chairman of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova to discuss inter-parliamentary cooperation. He also met with the Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Board Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pasha-zadeh, who received an invitation to the International Conference in Ashgabat in December 2025.
Hero-Arkadag visited the Alley of Honorable Burial and laid a wreath at the tomb of Azerbaijan's National Leader Heydar Aliyev, and honored the memory of national heroes in the Victory Park. A meeting with President Aliyev and founder of the complex Emin Agalarov was held at the Sea Breeze resort complex.
Following the talks, the sides agreed to develop cooperation in political, trade-economic, transportation, cultural, humanitarian and sports spheres. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov invited President Ilham Aliyev to visit Turkmenistan at any convenient time.
