On April 12, a solemn ceremony of laying memorial bouquets at the bust of Yuri Gagarin, the legendary pilot-cosmonaut who opened the era of manned space flights, was held in the Turkmen capital.
Residents of Ashgabat, together with members of the Russian Embassy in Turkmenistan, paid tribute to the memory of the Hero of the Soviet Union, who made his first flight in 1961 and returned to Earth.
The monument to Yuri Gagarin was unveiled in Turkmenistan in 2021 on the territory of the Russian Embassy in Ashgabat. The cosmonaut's bust was cast in bronze by talented sculptor Alexei Leonov. Similar monuments were opened earlier in many cities around the world.
