A delegation of Turkmenistan's parliament arrived in Seoul on Sunday for a three-day visit aimed at further developing inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries. This was reported by the State Information Agency of Turkmenistan.
The delegation is headed by Majlis Speaker D. Gulmanova. During the visit, they will take part in an inter-parliamentary forum with parliamentarians from South Korea and other Central Asian countries.
According to the Majlis statement, the delegation's visit is carried out on the instructions of Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and is a continuation of the initiatives launched by the National Leader of the Turkmen people Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to expand Turkmenistan's relations with South Korea.
Initiatives to deepen ties between Central Asia and South Korea have received broad international support, the statement said, and are consistent with Turkmenistan's policy of permanent neutrality and aimed at promoting the interests of the Turkmen people.
The visit of the parliamentary delegation to Seoul emphasizes Turkmenistan's aspiration to build on recent successes in strengthening inter-parliamentary ties with South Korea. Earlier this year, the Korea-Turkmenistan Interparliamentary Friendship Group was established between the two countries, which created a basis for expanding cooperation in the legislative sphere.
It is expected that during the three-day forum, meetings between Turkmen and South Korean lawmakers will be devoted to sharing experience in lawmaking and identifying new areas of parliamentary cooperation.
