Development of the footwear industry in Turkmenistan: trends, achievements and prospects

The footwear industry of Turkmenistan has demonstrated steady growth and development in recent years. As evidenced by data in open online sources, local manufacturers are increasing production output, mastering new technologies, expanding the range of products and markets.

In particular, Gerçek, one of the country's leading footwear companies, has multiplied its production volumes and the number of jobs in recent years. While the company originally consisted of just one workshop, it now has 14 high-tech divisions producing a huge variety of men's, women's and children's footwear.

In addition to quantitative growth, there is also a qualitative leap in the development of the industry. More and more Turkmen companies are applying advanced technologies, purchasing modern equipment, attracting the experience of foreign partners. This ultimately affects the competitiveness of products in both domestic and foreign markets.

In the following sections of this article, we will take a closer look at the main trends characterizing the current stage of development of the footwear industry of Turkmenistan. We will talk about the growth of production capacity and output, expansion of the range, modernization of production and other key factors of progress in this sphere of the national economy.

How Gerçek is developing

Gerçek has shown impressive growth dynamics in recent years, significantly increasing its production capacity and output.

According to sources, back in 2015, the company had only a couple hundred employees. Now the company employs more than 650 highly qualified workers. Such a significant increase in the number of jobs is evidence of the active development of production.

Thanks to the modernization of equipment and the expansion of production facilities, the company's technical capacity now allows it to produce up to 20 million pairs of shoes per year. This is a colossal figure, considering that initially we were talking about much more modest volumes.

In addition to increasing the production of traditional footwear, Gerçek has also expanded its product range to include specialized footwear for medical institutions, as well as new models such as rubber boots and school backpacks. In this way, the company demonstrates its ability to respond quickly to demand and offer innovative products to consumers.

Innovative materials in the production of Turkmen footwear

Leading footwear enterprises of Turkmenistan actively introduce modern materials and advanced technologies into production.

For example, in addition to the traditional use of natural materials such as felt and colored yarns, Gerçek also uses modern polymers such as polyurethanes and polyvinyl chloride. This makes it possible to produce shoes with improved consumer properties.

Another major company in the sector, Röwşen FE, reports the use of advanced European equipment, as well as cooperation with Italian and Turkish specialists. Such a transfer of technology and know-how certainly has a beneficial effect on the quality and design of the shoes produced.

Thus, the active introduction of innovations is another bright trend in the development of Turkmenistan's footwear industry, which ultimately leads to an increase in its global competitiveness.

Export expansion - new opportunities for Turkmen footwear

Leading footwear manufacturers in Turkmenistan are demonstrating significant growth in export shipments, developing new foreign markets.

For example, Gerçek not only fully meets the needs of the domestic market, but also actively increases the export of its products to neighboring countries. Increasing production capacity to 20 million pairs per year will allow the company to reach a qualitatively new level of external deliveries.

The other two major producers, FE "Röwşen" and HO "Muhammet-Balkan", have recently exported tens of thousands of pairs of shoes to Russia and also send products to Uzbekistan and Afghanistan. Moreover, "Röwşen" has opened a branch and a store in Domodedovo near Moscow, through which trade is carried out. Shoes of these brands are also successfully sold on popular Russian online marketplaces - Wildberries and Ozon. Such a breakthrough to the Russian market can be considered a very successful example of expanding the foreign presence of Turkmen footwear brands.

Thus, the industry leaders demonstrate their ability to produce globally competitive products that enjoy growing export demand. This trend suggests further strengthening of their positions in foreign markets.

New capacities for import substitution

According to the plans of the Government of Turkmenistan within the framework of the import substitution program, new modern enterprises of the footwear industry will be built in the country. This will dramatically increase the production capacity of the industry and reduce dependence on imported products.

In particular, the individual enterprise "Röwşen" received a land plot of 7 hectares in Mary city for the construction of a large shoe factory. It is planned that the new production facility will be equipped with advanced automated and robotic equipment from the world's leading suppliers. This will allow flexible reconfiguration of the assembly line to produce dozens of models of modern fashionable footwear.

The design capacity of the factory will be about 4 million pairs per year. Due to this it will be possible not only to fully cover the country's domestic needs, but also to significantly increase the export potential of the industry. In addition, the new production will create about 2,000 new jobs.

Thus, the import substitution strategy stimulates a large-scale modernization of the footwear industry of Turkmenistan on an innovative basis.

The use of local raw materials is a guarantee of high quality

As the analysis of sources shows, more and more Turkmen footwear manufacturers are focused on the use of domestic materials. This is an important aspect, as it makes it possible to produce products with improved characteristics.

For example, the company "Röwşen" actively uses local high-quality leather from livestock farms and private farms of Turkmenistan. Branded footwear is made of this ecologically clean natural raw material.

Another manufacturer - MB Shoes - also uses local leather in the production of 100%. This allows to ensure excellent consumer qualities and reliability of the produced footwear models.

The focus on processing of domestic raw materials is also important because it reduces the dependence of enterprises on imported supplies. And guaranteed access to high-quality materials from our own sources is a guarantee of production stability.

Thus, the tendency to increase the use of local materials contributes to the growth of quality and competitiveness of Turkmen footwear.

Summarizing the results, we can state the steady progressive development of the footwear industry of Turkmenistan at the present stage. Domestic manufacturers demonstrate volume growth, expansion of the product range, actively introduce innovative solutions. This increases their competitiveness in both domestic and foreign markets.

The successes of national footwear enterprises are the result of the implementation of an effective government policy aimed at comprehensive support of domestic business. The import substitution strategy and large-scale investments in the creation of modern production facilities create the necessary conditions for the dynamic progress of the industry. And far-sighted decisions of the country's leadership to diversify the economy provide it with stable prospects.

Thus, the analysis of the situation allows us to confidently predict further strengthening of the positions of Turkmen footwear manufacturers in both domestic and foreign markets. And the results of their work will continue to serve as a clear confirmation of the effectiveness of the economic policy of Turkmenistan.
