UN Secretary-General António Guterres sent a letter to the National Leader of the Turkmen people,
Mr. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan, sent a letter in which he expressed his deep gratitude to the Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty, the Government and the people of Turkmenistan for the warm welcome and excellent hospitality extended to him and his delegation during their recent visit, TDH reports.

In his letter, António Guterres emphasized that Turkmenistan's initiatives to promote a culture of peace, trust and diplomacy deserve high praise.

The UN Secretary-General emphasized that he welcomes Turkmenistan's proposals to expand transport and energy connectivity in Central Asia and beyond, as well as to strengthen regional cooperation in combating the effects of climate change. Turkmenistan's commitment to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including methane, deserves special attention, the letter said.

In his message, António Guterres thanked the National Leader of the Turkmen people for the high appreciation of the United Nations and urged the Government of Turkmenistan to consider the possibility of expanding the social protection system in Turkmenistan by providing community-based social services by the United Nations.

The UN Secretary-General, noting his deep appreciation for the cordial atmosphere and extraordinary generosity shown during his visit to Ashgabat, expressed his hope that relations between the United Nations and Turkmenistan would continue to deepen and strengthen and looked forward to Turkmenistan playing an important role at the Summit of the Future to be held in September in New York.
