The presidents of Turkmenistan, Afghanistan and Azerbaijan held trilateral talks on the topic of effective operation of the Lazurite Transport Corridor, which was established by a corresponding agreement of the five countries in November 2017. In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, this project is of particular importance.
During the meeting, Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov made a proposal to create a logistics center of the Lazurit Corridor, which would coordinate transport interaction in the format of the three countries, which would increase the efficiency of the project and contribute to the stable flow of goods.
The Turkmen leader expressed his readiness to discuss mutually beneficial cooperation on the Turkmenbashi seaport. Turkmenistan is ready to lease the capacity of its terminals to Afghanistan and Azerbaijan. The president of Turkmenistan also spoke about the potential of Turkmen-Afghan transport relations.
The head of Turkmenistan emphasized the pricing policy in the sphere of transport relations between the three countries and suggested compiling a digital atlas of the route connecting Afghanistan, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan.
Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov proposed to hold further negotiations on this issue between the leaders of the transport sector in July 2020.
