The State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan and UNDP held a workshop on the application of the 2008 SNA

Employees of the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan took part in a seminar on the use of the SNA 2008 system. During the online training, participants learned how to create resource tables and use goods and services in the System of National Accounts (SNA) 2008.

The virtual workshop was organized as part of a project jointly implemented by UNDP and the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan. The project is designed to strengthen the capacity of the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan in such areas as statistical, organizational and information-technical. Its implementation will allow the Turkmen Goskomstat to conduct a synchronized statistical study of production and sales costs in 2022.

Natalya Ustinova, an expert of international class, introduced the participants to the capabilities of SNS-2008. It should be noted that the System is an adapted version of the SNA-1993. It is a statistical framework that combines a comprehensive, classified and flexible set of macroeconomic accounts. It is well suited for analysis and policy making. The 2008 SNA is universal for all countries. In its development, the needs of countries at different stages of economic development were taken into account. Standards for a number of other areas of economic statistics are also based on this system.

The project aimed at strengthening the capacity of the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan was launched in early 2021. It is based on three key components - strengthening the information and technical capabilities of Goskomstat, which will provide better quality statistical data; building the capacity of Goskomstat in statistical reporting to track the level of SDG progress; continuing the transition to the 2008 SNA with a wider scope, level of detail and quality of national accounts and economic statistics to complement them.
