As we have already reportedn February 26, with the support of the Japan Foundation and the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan, an exhibition of Japanese dolls was opened in Ashgabat. In total at the Museum of Fine Arts 67 "ningyo" (Japanese for "doll") are on display until March 9. Next, the collection will go to New Zealand.
This beautiful form of Japanese art dates back more than 13 centuries. Each of the traditional dolls has its own name and purpose, so the exhibits are divided into different themes. The Japanese often use dolls to protect them from evil spirits and disease. Thus, Momotaro and Kintaro are considered hero dolls with supernatural powers that can enhance prayers for the healthy growth of boys.
As Ambassador Hiroyuki Yamamato noted in his speech, the mission of the exhibition is to strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between peoples.
