Turkmenistan's Kaplankyr Nature Reserve celebrates its 45th birthday

The Kaplankyr State Nature Reserve in the north of Turkmenistan celebrates its 45th anniversary. This is reported by the online edition of Vestiabad.ru.

The reserve was established to preserve and restore the number of gazelle, honeyeater, and Ustyurt mountain sheep in 1979. In 2023, the Kaplankyr State Nature Reserve became a part of the transnational site "Turanian Temperate Deserts" of the UNESCO World Heritage List. Its territory covers an area of more than 275 thousand hectares. According to past data, the reserve is home to a migratory population of kulan over 40 heads.

The Sarykamysh and Shasenemsky zakazniks, which are part of the reserve, protect waterfowl and waterfowl wintering, nesting and migratory birds, as well as ungulates.
