The issues of seismic hazard assessment were discussed at the scientific-practical conference "Reduction of seismic risk in earthquake-prone zones of Turkmenistan" at the Institute of Seismology and Atmospheric Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan. Within the framework of the forum, information on the performance of scientific works taking into account the best international practices was presented. Seismic hazard assessment is an important part of seismic situation forecasting. On the basis of information on seismically dangerous zones, a national map of seismic zoning has been created. This map is used for planning the safe development of territories and protective measures.
Scientists of the Institute have completed work on a map of seismic microzonation of Ashgabat, which will be the basis for future construction projects.
