The heads of Turkmenistan and Iran had a telephone conversation. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani warmly greeted each other and exchanged mutual congratulations and best wishes on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr holiday.
During the meeting, participants emphasized that Turkmen and Iranian nations have good relations based on the commonality of ancient history and culture. It was noted that in its foreign policy Turkmenistan seeks to establish and develop good neighborly relations with all countries, both near and far. Therefore, according to the Turkmen leader, Turkmen-Iranian relations continue to actively develop and strengthen in all strategically important areas - economic, political and humanitarian. The high level of interaction between the two powers within the framework of international organizations such as the UN and its branches was also emphasized.
A separate item in the conversation between the leaders of Turkmenistan and Iran was the COVID-19 pandemic, which is rapidly spreading over the planet and has the most negative impact on all spheres of interstate relations.
Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov noted that his state fully supports the measures taken in the world in the fight against COVID-19. According to the nation's leader, only joint efforts can overcome the disease and its consequences, so a concerted development of an action plan in this direction should be carried out.
