The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan met with the UN Assistant High Commissioner for Refugees

Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov met with Assistant UN High Commissioner for Refugees Ruvendrini Menikdiwela during her working visit to Ashgabat on November 7. About it reports Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The parties discussed the effectiveness of Turkmenistan's long-term work with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. Mrs. R. Ms. R. Menikdiwela positively assessed the work of the Government of Turkmenistan, emphasizing the effectiveness of measures taken to eradicate statelessness. Thus, only recently Turkmenistan has granted citizenship to more than 32 thousand refugees and stateless persons.

It was noted that on October 14 of this year, at the plenary meeting of the Executive Committee of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Geneva, a decision was taken on Turkmenistan's joining the Global Alliance to End Statelessness.
