On the initiative of Turkmenistan, the Silk Road: Zarafshan-Karakum Corridor has been inscribed on the UNESCO List

According to the results of the 45th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, which was attended by the Turkmen delegation headed by Turkmenistan's Ambassador to France, Permanent Delegate to UNESCO M. Chariev, the site "Silk Road: Zarafshan-Karakum Corridor" was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List under criteria (ii), (iii) and (v). This is reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The UNESCO World Heritage Site consists of 31 monuments located in Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. They include medieval cities and Sogdian works of art, architectural monuments from the 2nd century BC to the 16th century AD.

The Zarafshan-Karakum corridor also includes ancient water management structures and infrastructure in mountains, arid steppes, oases, fertile valleys and desert zones.
