The 27th project of the "Ambassador's Fund for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage" was completed at the Shehrislam settlement in Ahal province. The event was reported by the Internet publication "Turkmenistan: Golden Age".
The purpose of the program is to preserve the most ancient hydraulic engineering devices, estimated to date back to the XI century, through restoration and rehabilitation works. The restoration was carried out by experts from the Institute of History and Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan. The work was supported by the American Embassy in Turkmenistan and the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan.
The route of the Great Silk Road ran through Shehrislam, which made the city a trade and craft center. The settlement was equipped with water conduits and was located on an area of about 100 hectares.
Remnants of architectural structures and other historical artifacts continue to be found on the grounds of the historic monument.
