On the day of Ashgabat's 140th anniversary, a boy and a girl named after the capital of Turkmenistan were born at the Scientific-Clinical Center for Mother and Child Healthcare. Selbi and Islam Orazmyradov named their newborn son Ashgabat, and Aina and Yazmukhammet Atajikov named their newborn daughter Merjen ("Pearl"). Both couples' newborns are their firstborns. Doctors say the babies' health is good. Ashkhabad was born weighing 3,985 grams, Merjen 3,720 grams. The height of both is 53 cm.
The future parents, expecting their first-born children, enthusiastically responded to the suggestion of the President of Turkmenistan to name the first newborns May 25, 2021, Ashgabat or Paytagt, and respectively Mergen or May, as a sign of love for the white marble city.
On behalf of the head of Turkmenistan, young parents of children born on the 140th anniversary of the capital received gifts, congratulations and good wishes.
