Turkmenistan took over the chairmanship of the Economic Cooperation Organization, this event took place during the 14th ECO Leaders Summit, which was held in virtual format on 4 March 2021 under the chairmanship of the Head of Turkey. The Presidents of Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Iran, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, the ECO Secretary General, the leadership of the Energy Charter and the Turkic Council took part in the summit. The key topic of the summit was overcoming the negative impact of COVID-19 on the state economies. The summit participants expressed their readiness to jointly confront the consequences of the socio-economic crisis situation caused by the global pandemic. It was noted that ECO has the potential to work in this vein. The participants discussed possibilities of intensifying partnerships in the economic, trade and humanitarian sectors.
Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov outlined the key vectors of interaction in the format of Turkmenistan's chairmanship of the ECO. Our country intends to contribute to improving the work of the Organization to unlock the potential of interaction in various fields.
The 15th summit of the organization will be held in Turkmenistan.
