President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov held talks with Chairman of the Great State Khural of Mongolia Dashzegwijn Amarbayasgalan during his state visit to Ulaanbaatar on June 2. The meeting was devoted to the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
The Turkmen head of state outlined six priority areas for expanding inter-parliamentary ties. Among them are the establishment of relations between parliamentary friendship groups, organization of working visits of deputies, interaction between young parliamentarians and activation of the role of women in the lawmaking process.
President Berdimuhamedov also proposed to develop the exchange of experience in the field of legislation and to support the initiatives of both countries in international organizations, including the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the OSCE Inter-Parliamentary Assembly.
The Chairman of the Mongolian Parliament praised the peace-loving policy of the Turkmen leader aimed at strengthening regional and international cooperation. Amarbayasgalan emphasized the importance of bilateral talks at the highest level for the development of relations between the states.
The meeting was a continuation of the active political dialog between the countries. Last year, the President of Mongolia paid a state visit to Turkmenistan, which resulted in the adoption of a Joint Statement on Interstate Relations and the development of a Roadmap for Cooperation for 2025-2026.
Special Parliamentary Friendship Groups have been established in the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and the Great State Khural of Mongolia to support political and diplomatic relations. Both sides reaffirmed their intention to continue developing inter-parliamentary ties as an important tool for strengthening friendship between the peoples of the two countries.
