On Tuesday, September 19, Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part in a summit with the leaders of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and the United States in the first meeting in the "C5+1" format. This was reported by the publication "Turkmenistan: Golden Age".
The C5+1 platform was established in 2015 to promote multilateral cooperation between the five Central Asian countries and the United States. This week's summit in New York on the sidelines of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly was the first meeting of the C5+1 leaders.
Regional security, trade and economic cooperation, connectivity, climate change, good governance and rule of law reforms were the main topics of discussion at the summit, the joint statement said.
In his opening remarks, President Berdimuhamedov emphasized Turkmenistan's commitment to expanding cooperation with all partners within the framework of the policy of permanent neutrality to promote peace, security and stability in the world.
Other leaders also expressed their desire to promote security, prosperity and sustainable development in Central Asia by strengthening economic, energy and security ties.
The C5+1 Summit marks an important milestone in relations between the Central Asian states and the United States. The participants intend to build on this first meeting to advance regional integration and cooperation on issues of mutual interest.
