Speaking at the 78th session on Tuesday General Assembly UN, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to global security covering all aspects, including military, political, economic, environmental, energy, food and information security.
"None of the listed areas can be secondary or irrelevant, and their solution can be postponed to a later date.", he said.
The Turkmen leader proposed to develop a new global security strategy based on the principles of the UN Charter and recognized norms of international law, taking into account emerging risks such as climate change and disruptions in food supplies.
"Such a strategy, in our view, should reflect the presence, along with the traditional ones, of new risk factors that have emerged recently," he explained.
In Serdar Berdimuhamedov's opinion, the UN has a crucial role to play in a balanced assessment of global developments, overcoming mistrust in world politics and identifying opportunities for compromise. He reiterated that the UN remains the only universal organization responsible for global security.
