The socio-economic problems caused by COVID-19 were the main topic of yesterday's meeting between the UN Working Group and the Turkmen government.
Within the framework of the 3rd meeting, the participants discussed the achieved results of socio-economic measures in Turkmenistan, which were adopted on July 3 by the Decree of the Head of the State to counter the emerging threat. The plan was made taking into account the UN Global guidance in this direction and the National Development Programs of the country.
As E. Panova, UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan, noted, the main emphasis is on supporting the most vulnerable segments of the population and sectors of the economy.
Representatives of the government of Turkmenistan reported on the measures taken, in particular: the provision of loan deferrals for SMEs, the introduction of modern digital payment systems, online registration of businesses, ensuring food security, etc.
To obtain the additional funding needed to implement the Plan, Turkmenistan has intensified its active participation in UN initiatives.
