Turkmenistan became a member of the UN Commission on Social Development for 2025-2029

During the Organizational Session of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) on April 9, 2024, elections to the Council's subsidiary bodies were held. This is reported on the official website of the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan.

During the vote, the participants unanimously supported the candidacy of Turkmenistan, electing it as a full member of the Commission for Social Development for 2025-2029. As a member of the Commission for Social Development, Turkmenistan will continue to fulfill the functions it has been performing since its election in 2020.

ECOSOC is one of the main bodies of the United Nations, which carries out cooperation in the economic and social spheres. Since 2023 Turkmenistan has been a member of the Commission on Population and Development. In 2021, Turkmenistan was elected as a member of the Executive Board of the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women for 2022-2024.
