Turkmenistan and Belarus continue to develop their mutual cooperation. The Ambassador of Belarus to Turkmenistan, Vyacheslav Beskosty, spoke about the current state of relations between the two countries and their prospects during the briefing. The event, organized in Ashgabat, was devoted to the preparations for the Republican referendum on additions and amendments to the Basic Law of the Belarusian state. As the diplomat noted, January 2023 will mark three decades since the establishment of the Turkmen-Belarusian diplomatic relations. The contractual and legal framework of the bilateral cooperation currently consists of more than a hundred multilevel agreements.
Separately, dwelling on the forthcoming constitutional referendum in Belarus, the ambassador noted that among the issues to be discussed by the nation were: respect for nature, family upbringing of children, refusal to strive for neutrality, obtaining of the Great Belarusian Assembly of the Constitutional status, and others. Polling stations abroad will not be opened. When it comes to Turkmenistan, there are not enough Belarusian citizens with consular registration, that is why it is inexpedient to open polling stations there.
The ambassador emphasized that the two countries also actively support each other in the global political and diplomatic arena, especially within the UN framework.
Among the priorities of the Turkmen-Belarusian interaction is a mutually beneficial partnership in the trade and economic sphere. The Ambassador voiced the data of the National Statistics Committee of Belarus relating to the results of 2021. According to them, turnover between the two countries amounted to $20.8 million, including exports from Belarus to Turkmenistan in the amount of $13.7 million.
The diplomat noted that there is a wide range of medicines and food products made in Belarus in the Turkmen market. Belarus also supplies products of woodworking enterprises, tires and more to the Turkmen partners.
For its part, Turkmenistan exports to Belarus products of oil refineries and textile industry, household items made of plastic, etc.
The national trading houses located in Minsk and Ashkhabad also make a significant contribution to the expansion of the lists of names of goods of mutual supplies.
In the humanitarian sphere, according to the ambassador, the Turkmen-Belarusian cooperation is also actively developing. Thus, Belarusian universities accepted more than 8 thousand Turkmen students. The diplomat also expressed hope that when the pandemic period is finally over, the two friendly countries will again hold the traditional Days of Culture.
