Turkmenistan and Iran Celebrate 30 Years of Diplomatic Relations

Turkmenistan and Iran celebrated the 30th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations. The celebrations were held at the Cultural Center of the Iranian Embassy in Ashgabat. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iran to Turkmenistan Gholam Abbas Arbab opened the event.

He delivered a congratulatory address to Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov and all Foreign Ministry officials on the occasion of Turkmenistan's Diplomat's Day. He also noted that the anniversary of the establishment of Turkmen-Iranian diplomatic relations also falls on this day.

The head of the Iranian diplomatic mission said that the state he represents has much in common with Turkmenistan, both on the historical, confessional, and civilizational levels. The two countries are also united by the border of friendship. Iran is among the largest economic partners of Turkmenistan. The countries have already implemented and continue to implement a number of large-scale projects that are of paramount importance for the Turkmen-Iranian relations in their mutual cooperation.

The Iranian ambassador also noted that President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov has already congratulated On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, his Iranian counterpart Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi and the people of Iran addressed the best wishes to them. The diplomat recalled that the Iranian leader paid a working visit to Turkmenistan in late November last year as a participant in the 15th ECO Summit.

The Iranian ambassador also noted the importance of the working visit that the Turkmen delegation made to Tehran in January of this year. The group from Turkmenistan was led by Deputy Prime Minister Berdymukhamedov and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Meredov. The delegation held several meetings on fundamental issues of Turkmen-Iranian relations.

The Iranian embassy's cultural attaché and head of the Cultural Center in Ashgabat Navid Rasuli spoke afterwards. He emphasized that Turkmenistan and Iran have established cultural and good neighborly relations. The attache also announced the results of the competition among the authors of publications on "Iranian Studies" - more than seven dozen works were sent to the contest, and three winners were chosen from among them. They were awarded valuable prizes and certificates of merit.

The participants in the celebration of the thirtieth anniversary of the establishment of Turkmen-Iranian diplomatic relations were also representatives of the media, social activists, students and workers in various fields. The final chord of the celebration was a musical program prepared by artists.
