The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that Russia continues to consider Turkmenistan an important trade partner in the region. The Russian Foreign Ministry cited a number of specific facts confirming the confident progress of bilateral cooperation in the trade and economic sphere.
According to the data presented, during the 10 months of 2021 the trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Russia reached almost $730 million.
Beginning in 2019, PJSC "Gazprom" again began to purchase "blue fuel" extracted from the Turkmen fields - every year there is an increase in the volume of gas exports. Many large companies from Russia are actively working in Turkmenistan. Among them are Vozrozhdenie, KAMAZ, Tatneft and others.
The importance of the activities of the Turkmen-Russian intergovernmental commission on economic partnership was also emphasized. It is co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexey Overchuk and Vice Prime Minister of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdymukhamedov. The Commission also has a high-level Group aimed at promoting investment and trade. To this end, it coordinates bilateral business ties, facilitating the formation of the necessary climate for doing business.
In accordance with the development of the Turkmen-Russian cooperation, its legal framework is also developing. At the moment it includes more than 170 agreements concluded between the two states, their governments and departments. The documents regulate political, military, economic, humanitarian and other types of bilateral partnership.
The countries cooperate closely in health care, education and culture. For example, Turkmenistan was among the first to register Russian-made vaccines in its territory. Last year 330.000 sets of Sputnik V vaccine were supplied to Ashgabat, and in January this year alone 800.000 doses of Sputnik Lite vaccine were given, 300.000 of which are free of charge.
As for education, the Russian Foreign Ministry noted that over 30 thousand students from Turkmenistan currently receive higher education at Russian institutions. Institutions of higher education in Moscow, Kazan, St. Petersburg, Voronezh, Tver, Samara and Rostov-on-Don are in particular demand among young Turkmenistanis. Since the pandemic has affected air travel between the two countries, Turkmen students have been given the opportunity to study online.
The Russian Foreign Ministry recalled that the Joint Turkmen-Russian secondary school named after Pushkin has been operating in Ashgabat for almost 20 years. The school adheres to high educational standards, allowing its graduates to pass entrance exams to leading Turkmen and Russian universities.
The Foreign Ministry of Russia stresses that once the epidemic situation in the world is stabilized and the restriction is lifted, the sides will resume the cultural events.
