Turkmenistan and CAREC expand cooperation

The new director of the CAREC project office in Turkmenistan, Mergen Kepbanov, told about the expansion of cooperation with Turkmenistan in the field of ecology. This is reported by the Internet edition AsmanNews.

During the interview, Mergen Kepbanov spoke about the role of CAREC in the region. He noted that the Regional Environmental Center of Central Asia was established in 1998 by the Central Asian five states together with UNDP and the EU to assist in solving environmental problems. This year CAREC signed three Memorandums of Understanding with "Society for Nature Protection of Turkmenistan", NGO "Tebigi Kuvvat" and NGO "Yash Tebigatchy".

The Director of the project office reported that it is planned to create a volunteer network with the involvement of young people to participate in international projects. He also emphasized that a five-year project on water resources management in Central Asia is being implemented. Together with GEF it is planned to implement a project on transformation of Turkmenistan's agriculture. According to Kepbanov, a number of projects on the territory of Turkmenistan are planned to be implemented in the near future.
