Turkmenistan and Russia discuss cooperation

A meeting was held Intergovernmental Commissions on Economic Cooperationin the course of which Turkmenistan and Russia considered the prospects for bilateral cooperation. The Turkmen side was represented by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov. Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk spoke on behalf of the Russian Federation. The event was traditionally held online.

Delegates from some key Turkmen and Russian ministries and agencies were also invited to the meeting.

The meeting had a full agenda. A wide range of areas for further Turkmen-Russian cooperation was discussed, and the current state of the partnership between the two countries was reviewed. It was noted that the partnership between the countries is at a high level.

The participants discussed the legal and contractual basis of the partnership, considered the interaction in the economics and commerce, banking, industry, and geology.

The topic also underwent close scrutiny Countering the COVID-19 pandemic - The sides talked about cooperation and exchange of experience between Turkmenistan's and Russia's relevant agencies.

The main topics of mutual cooperation were analyzed in educational sector. In particular, the need to improve bilateral relations in the aforementioned area was discussed.

The meeting resulted in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation in energy industry. Representatives of the Ministries of Energy of Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation put their signatures under the document.

Expressing the hope that the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission will be held in a face-to-face format, the participants of the current meeting announced its conclusion.
