Afghan delegation headed by Acting Minister of Industry and Trade Alhaj Nuriddin Azizi visited Turkmenistan and met with Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov. This is reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
In the course of the meeting, the sides discussed the issues of realization of economic projects, provision of humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan and cooperation in the water sector.
The Turkmen side emphasized three main issues related to transboundary water use.
First, the Turkmen side emphasized the need for Afghanistan to apply a strictly scientific approach to water withdrawal from transboundary rivers, according to which water should be withdrawn in the volume that meets real needs.
Secondly, it was noted that the construction and operation of hydraulic structures should be carried out by highly qualified specialists who have knowledge in ensuring the correct operation of facilities.
Thirdly, it was emphasized that a very important aspect of rational water use is to respect the interests of all states located along transboundary rivers.
