Turkmenistan is carrying out comprehensive work on preservation and development of national traditions of Alabai breeding. This is reported by the Internet publication "Türkmenistan Habarlar Portaly".
Alabai, as well as Akhalteke horses, are an important national value of Turkmenistan, symbolizing a special understanding of beauty, harmony and world outlook of the Turkmen people. It is not by chance that the image of the Turkmen Alabai named "Vepali" became the symbol of the 5th Asian Martial Arts Games.
In 2017, the National Leader of the Turkmen people presented an alabai named "Vepali" to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin as a symbol of Turkmen-Russian friendship and long-term cooperation within the framework of the CIS Council of Heads of State. In 2019, during a meeting with border guards, the National Leader of the Turkmen People Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov presented them with 7 puppies of Turkmen Alabai.
Alabai are a true treasure of the Turkmen people, which is reflected in culture and art. The building of the International Association of Akhal-Teke Horse Breeding and the Association "Türkmen alabaý itleri" in Ashgabat houses a museum related to the history of the alabai.
In 2024, the Turkmen Alabai became the champion of Russia in the nomination "Central Asian Shepherd Dog", taking the first places in the categories "purebred and beauty" and "understanding and attentiveness".
