Yesterday, the third annual meeting of the regional platform dedicated to the development of cooperation between Central Asian and Caucasus countries in the field of nutrition was held in the Turkmen capital. The meeting, organized by the Ministry of Health of Turkmenistan, was supported by UNICEF.
The Regional Platform was launched in 2018 to help participating countries address nutrition-related challenges. The collective support and participation of UN agencies will enable states to effectively implement the government's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Turkmenistan chairs the platform in 2021-2022.
The speakers at the meeting were experts from the platform countries, development partners, researchers, national managers responsible for nutrition. The topics of nutrition of the residents of Central Asia and the Caucasus regions (including childhood) were discussed. The discussion touched on the topics of salt iodization in the region and improving the technological capacity of nutrition department staff.
