Ashgabat, July 28 - Arzuw.news. In August, the Avaza National Tourist Zone will become a venue for the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries. This is reported by the State Information Agency of Turkmenistan.
On July 4, the President of Turkmenistan signed the relevant decree on holding the international event. The conference will be held within the framework of the International Year of Peace and Confidence, which was proclaimed on the initiative of Turkmenistan and co-sponsored by 86 countries at the 63rd plenary meeting of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly on March 21, 2024.
The event will be held in the remarkable period marked by the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality and the 80th anniversary of the founding of the UN. On July 24, the National Leader of the Turkmen people Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov familiarized himself with the preparations for the conference in Balkan velayat.
The cultural program includes a friendship concert and a festival of national cuisine of Central Asian countries. Cultural figures and masters of arts from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan will take part in the concert.
Turkmenistan is actively developing international cultural cooperation. In 2023, the Awaza-2023 International Dance and Folklore Festival was held in the Avaza NTZ with the participation of groups from eight countries, including Iran, India, China and Russia. In the same year, the international film festival "Dawn of Arkadag" was held in the city of Arkadag, and the IV International Festival "Theater Art of Happy Era" was held in Ashgabat.
In May 2024, the capital of Turkmenistan hosted the International Festival "Music of Peace", and on June 4, 2025, the International Dance and Folklore Festival "Avaza - Land of Friendship" was held in the Avaza NTZ.
Turkmenistan has been a full member of UNESCO since 1993. The World Cultural Heritage List of the organization includes the monuments of Ancient Merv, Kunyaurgench and Parthian fortresses of Nisa. Together with Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, the Great Silk Road: Zarafshan-Karakum Corridor" has been inscribed on the UNESCO List.
