The "Sport" hotel in the Olympic city of the capital of Turkmenistan hosted a forum aimed to promote one of the national treasures - the Turkmen Alabai dog breed.
In the conference hall where the celebration took place, the Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Berdymukhamedov, who is also the head of the International Association "Türkmen alabaý itleri", as well as the leadership and delegates of ministries, public figures, delegates of political forces, universities and the mass media were present.
The exhibition of works and books by Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on dog breeding in general and breeding of alabais in particular welcomed the visitors. For example, the book "Turkmen Alabai" written by the President of Turkmenistan acquaints the readers with the place of this breed of dog in the life of Turkmen people, specifics of their rearing and care.
Addressing the participants of the forum, Berdimuhamedov noted that throughout the millennial history of the Turkmen nation, alabais have served not only as guards and helpers but also as loyal friends. To date, dogs of this breed have become an integral part of the history and cultural traditions of the Turkmen nation. And today's task is to preserve the alabais for future generations.
The head of the International Association said that one of the key objectives of its work is to preserve and increase the existing traditions of Turkmen dog breeding. At the same time, it is planned to combine the methods of folk breeding and advanced scientific achievements in this field in breeding alabais on a systematic basis.
One of the steps in this direction is the creation of the magazine "Türkmeniň nusgalyk alabaýy", the publication of which is the responsibility of the International Association "Türkmen alabaý itleri". The publication is characterized not only by cynological but also cultural orientation.
The forum participants were also informed about establishment of the modern infrastructure for professional dog breeding in Turkmenistan. To achieve this goal, complexes of buildings are being put into operation in all provinces of the country, which will make it possible to breed and care for alabais in full compliance with international standards.
The assistance of international partners plays an important role in the worldwide popularization of the breed. For example, the Association's specialists intend to submit an application to UNESCO for including the Turkmen Alabai in the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. At the end of his speech, Berdimuhamedov emphasized that recently the interest in this breed of dog all over the world began to grow.
Next, scientists and heads of universities made speeches. It was noted that such a new specialty as cynology appeared at the Turkmen Agricultural Institute. The representatives of scientific circles talked about their research into the history of Turkmen dog breeding, describing the Alabai as one of the oldest breeds of dogs in the world, as evidenced by archaeological finds.
