Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and International Organization for Migration (IOM) Regional Coordinator Zeynal Hajiyev held online talks. Zeynal Hajiyev heads the Organization's representative offices in such countries of the Central Asian region as Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.
The meeting was devoted to summarizing joint work in 2020 and planning activities for 2021. The parties outlined key areas for further partnership. In particular, the partnership will be developed in the field of digital technologies, prevention of human trafficking, assistance to migrants and border management. Turkmenistan has stated its intention to continue cooperating with IOM. Among other things, this applies to labor migration in order to ensure its safety and orderliness.
The participants also discussed issues of mutual cooperation under the state of emergency, touching upon the Sendai Framework Program aimed at minimizing the risk of disasters. In the course of the meeting, Turkmenistan outlined the algorithm of its actions at the national level, as well as in the framework of the implementation of the agreements prescribed by the Global Compact on Migration.
