The UNDP office and the Institute of State, Law and Democracy of Turkmenistan signed an agreement to assist with the implementation of the National Human Rights Action Plan in 2020. The venue for the signing was the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The Institute was represented by the Director Y.Nuriev, and the UNDP was represented by the Acting UNDP Resident Representative in Turkmenistan, N.Natsvlishvili.
The key goal of the signed agreements is to ensure the protection of human rights on the territory of Turkmenistan in accordance with the agreements of the international level, as well as the implementation of the National Action Plan in this area for 2016-2020.
In addition, the program includes assistance in creating a National Human Rights Action Plan for the next five years.
During the talks it was noted that Turkmenistan is implementing a number of specific measures aimed at the further development of a democratic society and strengthening the legal framework. In addition, the key focus is on bringing the current legal framework into harmony with international legal norms and implementing the country's international obligations to protect human rights in various spheres.
The adopted Work Plan aims to study the existing international experience and apply it to the creation of a National Human Rights Action Plan for the current year and the coming five-year period. It will promote legal literacy among students, civil servants, and the public.
