The National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held talks with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during his visit to Turkey. The meeting took place in Antalya, the online edition reported Turkmenportal.
The sides discussed the expansion of comprehensive cooperation based on the historically established fraternal relations between the peoples of the two countries. The sides noted with satisfaction the successful development of the Turkmen-Turkish relations of strategic partnership in political, economic, humanitarian and cultural spheres.
As a result of the negotiations, a package of bilateral documents was signed, in particular:
- Declaration of Intent on cooperation in the field of hydrocarbon resources between Turkmenistan and Turkey;
- Memorandum of Mutual Cooperation on the development of partnership in the field of natural gas between the State Concern "Turkmengaz" and the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey;
- Memorandum of Understanding between Turkmenistan Airlines and the University of Turkish Aeronautics Association.
Thus, the signed agreements lay the foundation for large-scale joint projects in strategic sectors of the two countries' economies in the coming years.
It is worth noting that Turkmenistan ranks 4th in the world in terms of natural gas reserves after Russia, Iran and Qatar. According to official data, Turkmenistan's gas reserves are estimated at about 15 trillion cubic meters. The country seeks to increase natural gas exports, expand the geography of supplies and increase gas production.
