Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov held a telephone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The talks took place yesterday, June 24.
The heads of the two countries' foreign ministries reviewed the main areas of partnership cooperation in political and diplomatic, trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres. The diplomats agreed to hold a personal meeting and bilateral annual consultations in the near future.
The sides paid special attention to regional and international issues of mutual interest. In particular, the sides discussed the current situation in the Middle East region.
The Turkmen side reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the principles of preventive diplomacy. Ashgabat expressed confidence in the effectiveness of diplomatic methods in solving international problems, relying on the world community's support of Turkmenistan's neutral status.
During the talks, the ministers also defined a strategy for further development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United States.
